 They did not send me the adapter I ordered.Aug 19, 2010
I ordered this adapter so that my old handsfree boom mic with 2.5 mm connection would work with my new phone that has a 3.5 mm plug. I went to Radio Shack and bought an adapter that I thought would work. After using that adapter I found that the ear piece worked, but the mic did not. After some research I found out that in order for the mic to work the 3.5 mm male piece needs to have 3 rings on it. I saw this pic and it clearly has 3 rings on it so I ordered it. Just got it in the mail today and it only had 2 rings on it and does not work. I have the same issue where the ear piece works, but the mic does not. DO NOT ORDER this as they totally lie about what you are getting.

Hello, I would just like to say this is not what i ordered. It is different then the picture and im not very pleased. I would not recommend getting this item. If you want an adaptor I would go to a local store.

IT DID NOT WORK. I PURCHASE TWO OF THEM. NEITHER WORKED. ALTHOUGH I PAID MORE FOR SHIPPING THAN THE PRODUCT. IT WAS A WASTE SINCE THEY WERE NOT WORKING.

I'm a big fan of operator style headsets for use with cell phones. While I know it's not a great idea to talk on the phone while driving, using a headset is better than holding the phone in your hand. The operator style headset (over the ear headphone with a boom microphone) is a highly evolved design that works well putting the microphone in the optimum position. For many years I used operator-style headsets with a variety of cell phones.
Then I bought my first iPhone. It's a lovely device but like many Apple products, includes a non-standard interface; in this case, for a headset. I've been looking for an adapter to go between my headsets that have 2.5 mm 3 ring jacks and the larger 4 ring jack on the iPhone. This interface does the trick. The price was right so I bought 3 of them.
Sadly, while the interface is mechanically good, the iPhone apparently requires headsets of a different impedance than other phones (another example of thinking different). This means that while I can connect a headset to the iPhone using this adapter, callers report that I sound tinny and distant. Even with the volume turned all the way up, I can't hear the callers well either.
So thanks for a well made product but it's not filling my need. I guess what I'm looking for is an operator-style headset made specifically for the iPhone.

This is hard to find in stores. It works great. I combined it with recommended wired headset from Plantronics. Asked for 2 day shipping. Got here in one day with headset for $46. Nice.
This will help me increase my business profits.
